About The Position

The Internship Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the internship program within the organization, from recruitment and onboarding to placement, mentorship, and program evaluation. This position works closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure a smooth and effective internship experience for students and the organization alike. The Internship Coordinator will also be involved in the development and continuous improvement of internship policies, recruitment strategies, and program outcomes. The Workforce Development Department plays a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare by developing and supporting programs that engage and train the next generation of healthcare professionals. The department is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of a variety of programs designed to build and strengthen the organization's talent pipeline. This includes overseeing clinical placements, externships, internships, apprenticeships, residency programs, and certification programs, ensuring they align with organizational goals and workforce needs. By collaborating across departments, this role helps to create a seamless and effective pathway for students and future healthcare workers, while fostering a high-quality learning experience that adheres to industry standards and regulatory requirements. This department is committed to actively engaging with external partners, building strong relationships to promote programs and recruit participants. By leveraging data and feedback, it continuously works to improve program outcomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, or health-related field.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in coordinating internships, recruitment, or other relevant student programming.
  • Experience with event planning, project management, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with an ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other productivity software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service orientation and the ability to work well with diverse teams and students.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Familiarity with internship management software or applicant tracking systems (ATS).
  • Detail-oriented and proactive with a strong ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Enthusiastic, with a passion for student development and fostering meaningful professional experiences.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving needs.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas, instructions, and feedback to various audiences, including interns and senior leadership.
  • Works well with others, including students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders, to achieve common goals.

  • Current professional license to practice in the state of Tennessee if qualification includes degree in health-related field.

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Organizational Development, or health-related field.

  • Experience working with diverse student populations and developing inclusive internship programs.
  • Professional certifications in Human Resources or Career Development (e.g., SHRM-CP, NCC, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all logistics related to the internship program, including planning, scheduling, and ensuring that all internships align with organizational goals.
  • Manage the recruitment process, including collaborating with Talent Acquisition and Marketing to post and advertise positions, as well as reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and facilitating onboarding for interns.
  • Act as a liaison between interns and departmental supervisors, providing support and guidance to both parties to ensure a positive and productive internship experience.
  • Design and implement feedback and evaluation systems for both interns and internship supervisors to assess the program's success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate orientation and training sessions for interns to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to succeed in their roles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions, career centers, and industry partners to ensure a robust pipeline of candidates.
  • Ensure that internship programs comply with organizational policies and relevant labor laws; prepare and submit regular reports on program outcomes and metrics.
  • Advocate for the internship program through marketing initiatives, campus recruitment events, and social media to attract high-quality candidates.
  • Create and implement a range of healthcare training programs, including clinical placements, externships, internships, apprenticeships, residency programs, and certification programs, to develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure that all workforce development initiatives align with the organization's overall mission, goals, and workforce needs.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of workforce development programs and make data-driven improvements based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of future healthcare workers by developing and managing programs that prepare students and professionals for successful careers.
  • Develop seamless pathways for students and new graduates into permanent healthcare positions through programs like internships, externships, and residencies.
  • Work closely with other departments within the organization to ensure workforce development programs are integrated and aligned with broader organizational needs.
  • Actively engage with external partners, including educational institutions, regulatory bodies, industry leaders, and community organizations, to promote programs and recruit participants.
  • Leverage external partnerships to recruit a diverse group of participants into the workforce development programs and ensure the programs attract qualified candidates.
  • Ensure that all training and certification programs meet industry standards and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain high standards for the educational experience, ensuring that it is both effective and adheres to best practices in healthcare training.
  • Utilize feedback from program participants, mentors, and stakeholders, as well as performance data, to assess and improve the programs.
  • Track program outcomes, such as job placements, retention rates, and participant satisfaction, to ensure the workforce development efforts are achieving their objectives.
  • Foster innovation in program design and delivery to keep up with emerging healthcare needs and trends.
  • Leverage technology to enhance training programs, whether through virtual learning platforms, simulation training, or other innovative approaches.
  • Advocate for the importance of workforce development within the organization and the broader healthcare industry.
  • Position the department as a leader in the healthcare workforce development field, keeping up with industry trends, research, and best practices.
