Calpine Corporation is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern for the Power Operations Engineer position at the Otay Mesa Energy Center. This internship is designed for college students who are pursuing a degree in engineering and are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the power industry. As the largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources in America, Calpine operates a fleet of 77 power plants, providing over 27,000 megawatts of generation capacity across 22 states and Canada. The company is committed to environmental stewardship and utilizes advanced technologies to generate power in a low-carbon manner. In this supervised role, the intern will have the opportunity to apply and enhance their knowledge of power plant operations. The position will involve working both day shifts and rotating shifts as required. The intern will report directly to the Plant Manager and will assist in various engineering tasks, operations, and maintenance activities under the guidance of qualified Calpine employees. This is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while contributing to the efficient operation of a power plant. The intern will be involved in a variety of responsibilities, including assisting the Plant Engineer with daily engineering tasks, maintaining shift operating logs, reading and recording gauges, and supporting mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks. The role will also include assisting in the development of standard operating procedures and maintaining plant chemistry logs.
