About The Position

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, paying $18.00 per hour. Employment starts now through 08/2025. The mission of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is to develop, preserve, and enhance the state's natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors. This unarmed law enforcement position (Title 33 Commission) involves extensive customer service and public contact while enforcing Colorado Parks and Wildlife laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be free of felony convictions or pending charges.
  • Must have or be able to attain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must be able to perform physical work in adverse conditions.
  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must complete a comprehensive background check.
  • Must attend and complete required Park Ranger training.
  • Must have ability to work with little supervision.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Intern's time will be divided between all sections of the park: Maintenance, Park Ranger, Visitor Services, and Interpretive/Education Programs.
  • Assist with all areas of daily park operations.
  • Commissioned as unarmed law enforcement officers (Title 33 Park Rangers), enforcing park laws and regulations, issuing citations for violations.
  • Patrol park areas by motor vehicle, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV), snowmobiles, and/or foot.
  • Respond to emergencies and resolve visitor complaints.
  • Complete reports and may be required to appear in court.
  • Assist in Visitor Services operations, revenue collection/verification, accounting, deposits, and education/interpretive programs.
  • Conduct general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities, including restrooms, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on State-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, snow removal, electrical work, transporting materials and supplies, and perform other duties as assigned.
