About The Position

The Internship Coordinator assists with the implementation and coordination of all aspects of the Project SEARCH (PS) Internship Program, as well as assist in the implementation of our internship preparation courses and our overall Workforce Development services. The PS is an internship program that will help adults with developmental disabilities participate in an internship fully integrated into a place of business. The Internship Coordinator will report to the Employment Services Manager, with strong guidance and collaboration from the Associate Director of Workforce Development. The internship coordinator will play a key role in engaging employer partners to effectively launch and implement an internship program in San Francisco County. Similarly, this role will work collaboratively with educational partners and other program providers to bring more valuable services to The Arc Participants.

Requirements

  • Knowledge: Possesses technical knowledge required to do the job including knowledge of public health and/or working the developmentally disabled population. Basic medical knowledge, including the ability to recognize social and medical risks factors, and chronic disease conditions. Knowledge of San Francisco community resources, Medicare, and Medi-Cal. Ability: To recognize mental health and addiction issues.

  • Excellent computer skills; Must have Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Salesforce, and web databases
  • Use of personal vehicle, valid CA driver’s license, clean driving record and acceptance as a covered driver by The Arc’s auto insurance company
  • Repetitive keyboard use, phone use, walking, standing, bending stooping and direct client interaction.
  • Ability to lift wheelchairs and walkers into cars.
  • Ability to assist clients with transferring in and out of cars from wheelchairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in special education, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience teaching or providing direct support to adults with developmental disabilities and or transition age youth with developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite job coaching services and act as lead liaison with host businesses.
  • Assist in identifying and analyzing tasks for work rotations and employment opportunities
  • Identify clients' strengths, interests and abilities
  • Determine what supports or adaptations may be needed for training and successful employment
  • Partner with job development team, placement or referral to services to meet the needs of all interns/graduates, as well as all Workforce Development program participants.
  • Design job accommodations and job modifications for people with disabilities employed at internship or partner employer sites.
  • Work closely with Employment Services Manager and Associate Director of Workforce Development to achieve desired outcomes for internship and workforce development programs.
  • Ensures maintenance of participant records to include emergency information and other records as requested by Project SEARCH model and Employment Services Manager
  • Ensures implementation of all safety policies and procedures.
  • Represent The Arc San Francisco, as assigned.
  • Develop individualized job development plans for participants to determine career interests, specific job preferences (hours, location, etc.), skills and abilities.
  • Act as on-site coordinator with host business and maintain contact with The Arc Employment team to develop specific job training and job placement opportunities
  • Perform specific job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities.
  • Development of the ISP (Individual Service Plan) and implement specific vocational components of the individual plan including job training and the development of specific goals/objectives/activities/ for a successful transition to work.
  • Provide and/or plan for training in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, budgeting, interviewing, self-advocacy as they relate to successful employment
  • Work with participants, employers, families, agency personnel, and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to employment.
  • Assist educational partner personnel in developing effective vocational curriculum activities for participants.
  • All other duties as assigned.
