Position overview Paid internship with the State of Montana’s captive insurance regulatory team Captive insurers are companies that insure their own risks, and state regulators review their finances, governance, and compliance to protect policyholders and the public Hands‑on experience in financial analysis, accounting, and insurance regulation in a supportive, mentoring environment What you’ll do Support a major annual review of all Montana-domiciled captive insurers, doing the analytical “leg work” with guidance from senior staff Analyze financial statements, ratios, and trends and help prepare concise summaries for regulatory decision‑making See behind‑the‑scenes how captives are formed, licensed, and supervised, and the types of regulatory issues that arise in practice What you’ll learn Practical skills in reading and interpreting statutory and GAAP financial statements How to connect numbers to real‑world risk, solvency, and business decisions Insight into captive insurance, alternative risk financing, and state regulatory processes Professional communication skills: framing questions, presenting findings, and defending your analysis
