About The Position

The Horticulture Asset Management intern will support Arboriculture Data Specialists in cataloging, appraising, and presenting living assets. Through observation and field work, the intern will assist in presenting trend data to Horticulture Management to help limit monocultures and keep track of asset losses and gains. The individual(s) selected will have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals who specialize in all aspects of Horticulture - from design to installation to maintenance - and see how the data they collect helps steer work planning.

Requirements

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
  • A transcript is required upon application.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than December 2026.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred majors include: Database Management, Dendrology, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Plant Health, or similar.
  • Preferred coursework completed: Plant Biology, Data Management, Database Management, Urban Forestry Management, or similar.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Knowledge of botanical nomenclature.
  • Comfortability with basic hand tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Catalogs, appraises, and records a wide range of living assets on UO Property – most notably large, specimen trees.
  • Inputs, manipulates, and presents trend data to relevant stakeholders to ensure UO Tree Canopy aligns with government regulations.
  • Utilizes Geographic Information Systems to collect location data of assets.
  • Utilizes Maximo and other business systems to support management of assets.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
