The International Student Advisor at Southwestern University plays a crucial role in supporting international and exchange students by serving as the primary advisor and Designated School Official (DSO). This position involves managing SEVIS records, issuing immigration documents, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and providing orientation and advising services. The advisor also coordinates various events and activities for international students and supports the Center for Integrative Learning's initiatives.

  • Serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) and manage SEVIS records and student files.
  • Issue immigration documents and advise on visa regulations.
  • Coordinate and conduct mandatory check-in and regular advising appointments with international students.
  • Maintain the International Student Services website and liaise with the Office of Admission.
  • Coordinate events such as International Student Orientations and workshops for international students.
  • Advise incoming and outgoing exchange students and assist with the implementation of exchange programs.
  • Supervise student employees, including hiring, training, and evaluating their performance.
  • Oversee compliance for non-academic international trips and collaborate with campus offices to provide services.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (required for SEVIS access).
  • Strong interpersonal, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in event coordination and ability to work as a team player.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage records accurately.
  • Highly organized with multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to perform under stress and manage fluctuating priorities.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of cultural differences and diversity within the campus community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professional manner with internal and external constituents.
  • One year of direct experience as a Designated School Official.
  • Knowledge of SEVIS reporting requirements and federal laws for international students.
  • Master's degree in a related field such as College Student Services Administration or International Education.
  • Experience as a study abroad advisor.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slate, Colleague, and/or Via TRM.
  • International experience and second language skills.
