About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director for International Affairs, the International Student Advisor II provides comprehensive support services for international students. The Advisor collaborates with office leadership to deliver high-quality services and guidance to international students, faculty, and staff, all while ensuring compliance with system, institutional, state, and federal regulations. The Advisor is entrusted with access to protected and confidential information in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations. In addition, the International Student Advisor II assists in planning and implementing programs, events, and services that foster a welcoming environment and promote a strong sense of belonging for international students at Texas A&M University–San Antonio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with international people.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically.

Nice To Haves

  • Student supervisory experience.
  • Experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Experience in records management.
  • Experience using institutional and governmental software systems (e.g. Banner, SEVIS, Degreeworks)
  • University experience in student-facing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Student & Scholar Support Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) as needed and provide regulatory interpretation in accordance with F-1 visa regulations, including maintaining proficiency with SEVIS.
  • Advise international students, faculty, and scholars on immigration-related matters and institutional policies in collaboration with Texas A&M International services. Shall serve as the advisor to the International Student Association.
  • Data Management & Reporting Maintain accurate records and databases related to foreign faculty, scholars, and students sponsored by the institution.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance across institutional systems (e.g. Banner, SEVIS, and Degreeworks).
  • Support records management processes related to immigration compliance and reporting.
  • Outreach, Programming & Communication Update and maintain immigration-related content on the university website, as well as informational handouts and brochures used to assist the campus community.
  • Assist with programming initiatives, including joint programming with campus departments and community partners.
  • Present at workshops, orientations, and informational sessions related to immigration and international education.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including trainings, webinars, and conferences to remain current on immigration regulations and best practices.
  • Additional Duties Assist in identifying program goals, developing strategies to meet those goals, and coordinating efforts with appropriate university offices.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
