About The Position

The Opportunity: The International Program Advisor serves as a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Office (ARO). The primary function is to track, update, report, and maintain immigration records under the Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS) and advise international students and exchange visitors on topics related to their immigration status. Must be able to interpret and follow Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) rules and regulations. The International Program Advisor works with the UCF Global- International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team and reports to the Director, ISSS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • To be a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Office (ARO), per federal regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident.

Responsibilities

  • Serves a SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for international students, exchange visitors, and their dependents.
  • Interprets, processes and signs US Department of Homeland Security and US Department of State forms for school transfers, registration, change of status, reinstatement, program extension, employment, practical training, travel, re-entry, and other immigration issues.
  • Provides immigration advising and assistance to international students and exchange visitors related to maintaining non-immigrant status.
  • Updates information and tracking of students and exchange visitors through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) required database SEVIS.
  • Updates and records information in the PeopleSoft.
  • Ensures documentation of processed services and activities are sent to the ViewStar system.
  • Utilizes computer technology to disseminate academic and legal status information to students and exchange visitors as well as to ensure regulatory compliance and students’ participation in legal benefits available under federal immigration regulations.
  • Collaborates with campus departments and local community organizations on issues and programs pertinent to international populations.
  • Collects and updates immigration related information of dependents.
  • Monitors compliance with health insurance requirements.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of J and F records.
  • Serves on the UCF Global Immigration Advising Team and other related teams to improve the quality of information and services offered to the international population.
  • Submits monthly reports to the director on international students & scholars tracking and assigned projects.
  • Follows-up on SEVIS alerts to ensure that SEVIS records for students and exchange visitors are updated.
  • Initiates and maintains communication with the SEVIS Help Desk to resolve any issues that impact SEVIS records.
  • Submits reports on SEVIS tracking.
  • Serves as one of the presenters in educational programs and workshops offered to new and continuing exchange visitors and students by UCF Global.
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of assessments, departmental publications, and information packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.
