About The Position

The primary responsibility of the International Admissions Coordinator DSO is to partner with the Admissions Team to assist prospective international students in their journey to enrollment at Carson-Newman University; to promote the mission of the institution and to perform associated duties as a Designated School Official (DSO) pursuant to the Department of Homeland Security and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree advantageous
  • Administrative background; researching, interpreting, and applying policies and procedures relating to admission and student visa requirements; paralegal experience a plus.
  • Organized and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Very strong administrative skills.
  • Strong customer service, written and verbal (English) communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of admissions terminology.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Proficient in the use of appropriate technology (Microsoft Office suite; Ellucian Colleague; and University CRM).
  • Ability to accurately diagnose problems and outline possible solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Increase enrollment and retention of international students by implementing recruitment plans established by Admissions Team and engaging international alumni.
  • Handle student records in a confidential manner compliant with FERPA regulations.
  • Research and forecast the development of new student markets that are a missional fit for the institution.
  • Create and employ innovative online events for prospective international students and record any feedback via online surveys.
  • Assist in creating marketing materials for the international student population.
  • Build relationships with and support prospective students & applicants throughout the entire admissions process; this includes maintaining incoming/outgoing email communications, phone calls, video calls, texts, and social media, following up as necessary.
  • Frequently available during off-peak hours to communicate with prospective students in other time zones.
  • Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate a willingness to assist prospective students through the enrollment process.
  • Adhere to University office policies relating to the application process.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for prospective and current students, including, but not limited to, issuing Form I-20s to initial and continuing students, attending training sessions and conferences associated with this role, and assisting the PDSO with any related tasks.
  • Keep up to date on current regulations relating to international students.
  • Participate in NAFSA Association of International Educators and the Tennessee Association of International Educators (TAIE) to strengthen C-N's network.
  • Assist PDSO with any of their duties pertaining to the international admissions office, such as new student orientation, campus relations, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Global Education staff on matters related to incoming and current international students.
  • Advocate for our international student population with all campus stakeholders.
  • Manage admissions file creation & operations and streamline these processes as needed.
  • Maintain automated emails to applicants through Slate; update as necessary to ensure the emails are current and contain accurate information and instructions.
  • Using Slate, create and maintain online forms to streamline student submission of visa related documentation required for their visa applications.
  • Evaluate and review foreign credentials to ascertain US equivalent of grades; also verify foreign transcripts and other application materials, such as financial and legal documents required for applicants' visa application process.
  • Attend and participate in any relevant enrollment management/admissions meetings.
  • Assist with research on possible partnerships overseas (e.g., third-party recruiters, educational counselors, and organizations enrolling international students).
  • Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Relations to develop and maintain relationships with CN alums overseas, both former international students and Americans serving overseas for the purpose of establishing productive recruiting agreements.
  • Travel to high schools within the US that have a high number of international students to promote C-N.
  • Support and oversee the training of new staff within the international admissions office.
  • Assist in planning international marketing and recruitment trips; participate in travel to these areas.
  • Support and assist the Director of International Admissions with related duties in their absence from the office and as otherwise needed.
  • Assist the Undergraduate Admissions Office with any events taking place on campus (e.g., Eagle Preview Day, Accepted Student Visit Day).
  • Other duties as assigned.
