The General Internist will support the mission of the Indian Health Service (IHS) by providing comprehensive, culturally acceptable outpatient internal medicine services to adult American Indians and Alaska Natives. The physician will manage a patient population that is often medically complex, including high rates of diabetes, cardiac conditions, substance use disorders, and rheumatologic conditions. $416,000 - $416,000 a year Location: Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, New Mexico Schedule & Environment · Hours: Standard tour of duty is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. · In-Clinic Support: On average, 5-7 other providers are on-site daily to assist. · Patient Census: 18 y/o + Key Responsibilities · Direct Patient Care: Provide chronic and urgent outpatient care for unestablished patients and those previously assigned to departed providers. · Clinical Appointments: See new patients in 30-40 minute visits and follow-up patients in 20-minute sessions. · Workload: Manage an average volume of 12-16 ambulatory patient visits per day, working five days per week. · Collaboration: Work as part of a team supported by nurses, nursing assistants, medical secretaries, and case managers. · Procedures: While not strictly required, the ability to perform basic ambulatory procedures is encouraged.
