About The Position

The Internal Investigator 1 Justice Center will perform various duties including conducting pre-adjudication investigations, assisting other investigators, tracing and interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects in civil cases, and obtaining statements and documents for court use. The role involves examining court and public records, preparing evidence for trial, and assisting in criminal investigations. The investigator will write narrative reports, coordinate witness appearances at adjudication proceedings, and testify regarding evidence gathered. Additionally, the investigator will serve civil process documents and make recommendations regarding case disposition, while operating necessary investigative equipment and responding to incident scenes.

Requirements

  • Four years of investigative experience and satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship.
  • Six years of investigative experience for appointment to full-level Internal Investigator 1.
  • An associate's degree may substitute for two years of investigative experience.
  • A bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of investigative experience.
  • Independent investigative experience including interviewing, collecting and analyzing data, and writing case narratives.

  • Experience in the direct provision of services related to care, review, investigation, assessment, treatment, or case planning for vulnerable persons.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-adjudication investigations and assist other investigators.
  • Trace, interview, and subpoena witnesses, victims, and suspects in civil cases.
  • Obtain statements, documents, and related evidence for use in court.
  • Conduct investigations of civil complaints, including allegations of abuse and neglect.
  • Examine court, public, and governmental records needed for investigation.
  • Prepare evidence for trial by taking photographs and preparing diagrams.
  • Assist in the investigation of criminal offenses.
  • Write narrative reports to communicate investigation results.
  • Coordinate the appearance of witnesses at adjudication proceedings.
  • Testify in adjudication proceedings concerning evidence gathered.
  • Serve as a liaison with law enforcement and other agencies.
  • Serve civil process documents and make recommendations regarding case disposition.
  • Operate computers and other investigative equipment.
  • Respond to incident scenes to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
