Valero is looking for an Internal Communications Strategist to join the Human Resources team at Valero Headquarters in San Antonio, TX. The Internal Communications Strategist will leverage strong writing skills and engagement tools to advance department goals for employee-focused communications as required. Ideal candidates have proven experience in digital and print communications, with advanced understanding of workforce-focused messaging for internal and recruitment-related external audiences.

  • Supports strategic narrative and project development, digital/social media communications strategy and Careers site/recruitment communications.
  • Initiates, plans and produces accurate, timely and strategic communications that educate and engage internal and external audiences on the company's workforce initiatives and HR objectives, including benefits, resources, programs, culture, achievements and engagement efforts.
  • Develops clear and concise employee communications, leadership messaging, portal content, website and social media content, video scripts, recruitment materials and educational content for internal and external audiences.
  • Provides knowledgeable, professional, trusted communications content and support to HR and other stakeholders requesting messaging assistance, including intake and assessment of initial requests; research and development of effective messaging; cultivation of new photography and graphics; and guidance for Company events and related communications as needed.
  • Maintains and strategizes content (image and written) for the Valero.com/Careers site to ensure high standards of design, messaging, SEO and alignment with company vision and workforce objectives; assists in daily tracking/maintaining of all Careers site content and analytics, as well as featured photography, branding and page development, as needed.
  • Helps support and lead projects that engage Valero's global workforce and build understanding of the energy industry as it relates to Valero's workforce recruitment and engagement mission; business objectives; employer brand usage; message consistency and successful collaboration with internal HR stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with HR teams and initiates opportunities to creatively communicate/promote the Valero Experience, our team-driven culture and our company as a place of rewarding, challenging careers and opportunity.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications-related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a writing-intensive role for strategic or corporate communications, digital communications, social media strategy and/or marketing or multimedia/visual arts
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person in an office setting at Valero Headquarters in San Antonio, TX
  • Able and willing to travel occasionally for photography and communications-related projects, as needed.
  • Project Management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Strategic or Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related area
  • Proficiency in business-focused creative arts (i.e. photography, visual arts or general page design)
  • Understanding of AP Style and internal communications
