About The Position

UNPAID Internship Opportunity. Are you a graduate student in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling looking for a meaningful, hands-on clinical internship? The Ivy Street School is now accepting applications for the upcoming academic year. The Ivy Street School is a small, year-round, private residential special education program serving neurodiverse adolescents and young adults ages 13–22. Our student-centered, collaborative approach emphasizes individualized support, therapeutic care, and real-world learning experiences throughout the Greater Boston community. We are deeply committed to helping students build the skills needed for independence and adulthood. About the Internship Clinical Interns play an integral role on our multidisciplinary team, providing therapeutic support while gaining robust clinical experience in a highly collaborative environment. Interns will: Provide individual, group, and family therapy to a small caseload (typically 3–5 students) Develop and lead therapeutic groups focused on topics such as healthy relationships Participate in treatment planning, Individualized Education Programs, and team meetings Collaborate with families, educators, and external providers Complete clinical documentation and case management responsibilities Support behavioral planning, risk assessments, and student transitions Training & Supervision Weekly individual and group supervision with a licensed clinician Ongoing professional development opportunities Hands-on experience in both clinical and residential school settings Schedule & Timeline Start: August (orientation), with regular hours beginning around Labor Day Commitment: Approximately 24 hours per week (varies by program requirements) End Date: Mid-April to mid-May, depending on academic program Who Should Apply Rising second-year graduate students or advanced standing students in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling Individuals passionate about working with adolescents and young adults Interest or experience in areas such as trauma, neurodiversity, behavioral health, or crisis intervention preferred Strong communication and collaboration skills required Interview Process Interested students are encouraged to reach out in late winter or spring. Selected candidates will interview with clinical leadership to assess fit and discuss internship structure, expectations, and learning goals.
