About The Position

Performs professional legal work as an intern of the County Solicitor’s office with direct, regular supervision. Responsible for reviewing Right-to-Know requests, researching, and preparing formal responses. Preparing responses to Right-to-Know appeals. Responsible for representing the County at unemployment hearings as well as researching various legal issues and drafting and reviewing policies as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certification from a recognized issuing agency.
  • Student currently enrolled in an accredited law school who has completed at least three semesters of legal studies. Must be in good academic standing, of good character, and possess competent legal ability.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license. Must be certified pursuant to PA.B.A.R. Rules 321 & 322.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of coursework in legal writing and evidence is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, organize fact evidence and precedents to present such materials effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to present and argue cases in court and before administrative entities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Court Officials, County Officials, co-workers, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Researching legal issues and drafting memoranda and policies on legal issues.
  • Representing the County at unemployment hearings.
  • Attending various legal proceedings.
  • Drafting legal appeals.
  • Researching and preparing responses to Right-To-Know requests and appeals
  • Miscellaneous typing.
