About The Position

The American Bankers Association (ABA) is seeking an undergraduate intern for a user experience internship within our Communications group’s Web Team. This internship provides students with a paid opportunity to work with one of the biggest trade associations in Washington, DC, from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026, at a pay rate of $25/hour for full-time work (37.5 hours per week). Interns will gain hands-on experience in an enterprise web team, which includes user experience professionals, UI/UX developers, content strategists, and digital marketing experts. The role involves planning a move from an MVC to headless CMS implementation and integrating a CDP and personalization suite. Interns will work closely with the marketing department and other teams to enhance member services and advocacy resources online.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS, with working familiarity with JavaScript, jQuery, and Bootstrap.
  • Ability to follow established protocols/processes with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of information architecture (IA), design best practices, and elements of good user experience.
  • A portfolio of prior work and school products, with a clear explanation of the problem being solved and personal contributions.
  • Ability to report into ABA headquarters located in Washington, DC, at least two times per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Content Management Systems (e.g., Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager, WordPress, or Drupal).

Responsibilities

  • Meet with key stakeholders to understand project goals, parameters, and requirements.
  • Perform competitive analyses and conduct necessary usability research.
  • Prepare recommendations in collaboration with other web team members.
  • Create wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes to support communication with stakeholders and usability testing.
  • Make best practices and data-based recommendations for better content, site functionality, or usability.
  • Apply content, accessibility, SEO, and design standards from the living style guide to standardize content across the site.
  • Draft user stories to support development work and participate in Agile ceremonies.
  • Support QA and regression testing efforts.
  • Regularly update website content and features to reflect ABA issues, events, and community engagement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
