About The Position

This intern will assist Project Development Planning staff in the implementation of a transportation planning program to assist a small South Dakota community (under 2,000 population) with the development of a multimodal community transportation plan, including bike, pedestrian, transit, and traditional modes. The position will consist of both office work (including policy research, GIS, planning, and report generation) and work on site with the community (including site analysis, data gathering, and public and stakeholder meetings). Some overnight travel will be required.

Requirements

  • Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours).
  • Must have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the start of the internship.
  • Preference for students majoring in community or transportation planning, landscape architecture, or civil engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed coursework in community or transportation planning.
  • Experience in multimodal transportation design studies.
  • GIS mapping capabilities.
