The role is responsible for beginning the process of learning the fundamentals of building and repairing new and existing molds, tooling, and automation components in a safe, clean, and efficient manner under the guidance of experienced toolmakers.

Requirements

• Ability to gain knowledge of using precise measuring instruments
• Self-motivated and capable of retaining knowledge acquired from experienced toolmakers
• Interest in attaining knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance
• Ability to communicate clearly
• Ability to work as part of a team and properly take direction
• Ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds
• Ability to communicate in verbal and written English

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety guarding is in place, and all areas of work are clean, neat, and organized
• Begins the process of understanding tooling specifications, blueprints, and sketches
• Set up and operation of mills, lathes, grinders, including CNC controlled, and other machining equipment
• Making and repairing cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges
• Takes direction from experienced toolmakers, production supervisor, or tool room manager
• Learns to analyze the assignment and proceed in a professional manner until the assignment is complete
• Gains an understanding of completing assignments in a timely manner and within proper quality specifications
• Other responsibilities as assigned
