JOB PURPOSE The primary project to be completed by the intern will be challenging the standards used to test our products in an effort to improve consistency, reliability, and usability. This project will improve the long-term understanding of our products and allow us to understand the best practices to use in product testing. In this project, he/she will do the following: Determine the current state of product testing in the mechanical test laboratory. Develop an experiment to challenge the test standard(s) to gain a better understanding of spinal implants. Perform a series of testing to get hands on experience. Properly document performed testing. Develop test fixture and process improvements to increase consistency and reliability of testing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following are the essential functions of this position. This position may be responsible for performing additional duties and tasks as needed and assigned. The intern will be responsible for completing the described project using the resources provided before the end of the internship. The main project deliverables are as follows: Report summarizing previous research Development of test protocol utilizing a proper design of experiments Completion of all outlined testing Completed BMES abstract Final test report to document testing Final CAD drawings/recommendations for improvement

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Enrollment in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program
  • Junior or Senior level standing, or graduate student
  • Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major.
  • CAD modeling experience.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major from an ABET accredited program.
  • CAD modeling experience with Creo or Solidworks.
  • Matlab experience.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and/or ISO standards.
