About The Position

Intern – Technician (Fleet Garage) City of Fort Wayne Ready to get hands-on and learn how a city fleet really runs? If you're mechanically curious, enjoy working with your hands, and want real-world experience-not just shadowing-this internship is for you. What You'll Do Assist technicians with preventive maintenance and basic servicing of City vehicles and equipment Conduct visual inspections and report abnormal conditions Safely move and porter vehicles within shop and work areas Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces according to safety standards Support daily shop operations and general maintenance activities What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent (or currently pursuing) Interest in automotive, diesel, mechanical, or skilled trades fields Basic mechanical knowledge or related coursework preferred Strong safety awareness and ability to follow instructions Valid Indiana Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Learning Outcomes By the end of this internship, participants will be able to: Demonstrate safe use of hand and power tools in a fleet environment Identify basic vehicle and equipment components and common maintenance needs Apply preventive maintenance practices used in municipal fleet operations Follow professional workplace, safety, and documentation standards Communicate effectively with technicians and supervisors in a shop setting Why Join Us Hands-on learning with a large, diverse municipal fleet Mentorship from experienced fleet professionals Resume-ready experience aligned with trade and technical career paths Exposure to public service operations that keep the community moving Learn the trade. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently pursuing)
  • Interest in automotive, diesel, mechanical, or skilled trades fields
