About The Position

As an Estes Intern within the Sustainability, Culture, and Communications (SC&C) department, you will be assigned to a team based on your area of concentration. Depending on the team, you will be exposed to various platforms, communication channels (both internal and external), content development and curation, data management, and creative services production. Each SC&C Intern will be paired with a mentor who will guide and oversee progress to ensure a successful experience for both the intern and Estes. This is a Temporary, Summer Internship position located primarily at Estes' Richmond Headquarters, and it will last no longer than 3 months. Estes values experience, and successful incumbents will be encouraged to apply to any Part-time or Full-time opportunities that may be available following the conclusion of the internship period.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), and at least 1 year of post-secondary education experience required. Previous coursework in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Communications, Graphic Design, Film, Marketing, or Public Relations, or related area of study is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to effectively communicate (verbal, written and listening)
  • Must have experience in at least one of these platforms: Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, Social Media, Google Analytics, SharePoint
  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting
  • Able to work within tight deadlines and efficiently complete assignments while keeping a focus on accuracy and details
  • Creative thinker who has an eye for detail and style
  • Must be able to lift approximately 20 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job
  • Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
  • Must be able to interact well with others
  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coursework in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Communications, Graphic Design, Film, Marketing, or Public Relations, or related area of study is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Effectively interact and communicate with team members and assigned mentor, to ensure understanding of requirements for assigned work; ask clarifying questions as needed to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Understand and follow training instructions and ask for help when needed.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Provide support, coordination, and administrative activities related to sustainability projects and internal/external communications
  • Provide content curation for digital and print communications campaigns; gather and organize sustainability information and data
  • Generate reports, track communication platform reviews, and complete administrative tasks related to a variety of communication platforms (intranet, digital signage, social media, survey tools, websites, blogs)
  • Track metrics, generate reports, and post content related to various digital communications platforms
  • Maintain various content calendars and communications schedules
  • Assist in the production of large-scale company events; for communications team, you may also assist with graphic design, proofing, copywriting, editing, videography, photography, and video production; for sustainability team, you may assist with emissions and decarbonization research and carbon accounting
  • Proactively support the team’s needs in executing communication plans and strategies
  • Printing and fulfillment of large-scale printing projects and mailing label list development, as assigned
  • Regular attendance is required.
