About The Position

The Data Science Summer 2025 Internship at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) offers an exciting opportunity for students to apply their predictive analytics knowledge within the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACoE). Interns will engage in projects that aim to predict consumer behavior, hospital readmissions, and specialty pharmacy drug usage, contributing to improved patient outcomes and business strategies. This full-time, paid internship will provide hands-on experience in the health insurance industry, networking opportunities, and the chance to work on meaningful projects.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Enrolled in a four-year college/university or a Master's/PhD program for the duration of the internship.
  • Effective verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidential information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and overall technical aptitude.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business Analytics.
  • GPA of 3.4 or higher.
  • Programming experience using statistical software such as R and statistical modules in Python; minimum one year of work experience (internship or other).

Responsibilities

  • Interpret analytical results using various techniques, from simple data aggregation to complex data mining.
  • Complete well-documented and repeatable projects.
  • Write and publish progress reports, identify project milestones, and recommend modifications.
  • Work with business and technical resources to identify analytical requirements.
  • Participate in meetings and present findings when necessary.
  • Complete related assignments for the internship program.
  • Engage in networking events with BCBSM leaders and other interns.
  • Participate in volunteer activities and community outreach.
