About The Position

Dominion Energy is looking for an intern for the Solar Project Construction group. This intern will apply technical and project management skills to the large-scale buildout of Virginia solar renewable infrastructure to meet the rising demand for energy across the region. The group is responsible for managing solar projects from development and design through procurement, permitting, construction, and closeout. Position is primarily stationed out of the downtown Richmond, VA office with opportunities to visit local solar project construction sites throughout the term.

Requirements

  • Possess an understanding of basic project tracking tools and applications.
  • Possess basic analytical and conceptual thinking.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering theory, logic, and multi-system interactions.
  • Ability to research, evaluate problems, and make well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Must have a strong desire to learn and motivation to complete activities and drive for technical solutions.
  • Can utilize clear verbal and written communications to diverse groups and audiences.
  • Must work well in a team environment including internal and external customers/stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in an Engineering degree program from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.
  • Preferred majors: General Engineering, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Chemical, or Controls Engineering.
  • Graduation date of winter 2027 or later.
  • Candidates must have a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of scope and schedule and coordination with key internal stakeholders (e.g., Business Development, Real Estate, Safety, Project Controls, Operations, and Environmental).
  • Performing reviews of preliminary site environmental and cultural studies, civil site plans, stormwater design, electrical distribution, equipment qualification/selection, and solar array layouts.
  • Identifying potential risk events, determining project impacts, and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Tasks required to obtain zoning and land disturbance permits to begin construction.
  • Oversight of contracted engineering products and/or verifying construction adherence to the site design during construction.
