About The Position

The Custom Government team works with breadth and depth across Akamai's technology stack to deliver a rich and wide set of customized solutions for our Public Sector customers. We collaborate, build, and operate world-class Enterprise Application Delivery Networks for the Public Sector and make them fast, reliable, and secure. As a participant in our programs, you will gain valuable experience and make contributions through meaningful project work. All internship assignments are project-based and focused on real business challenges important to Akamai's continued success. You will be encouraged to be a proactive member on your team. You will take on a comfortable level of responsibility, and be challenged to think critically and creatively. Our 12-week intern program starts in May, and ends in August. Interns are required to be available 40 hours per week and be returning to school after the program ends. Help shape the future of the Internet During your time with us, you will be work with senior engineers and solve real customer problems. You'll be tasked with writing code in support of these larger projects or writing tools to improve how we work. You will have ample opportunities to learn new subjects and engage with various technologies, toolsets and software languages. The ideal candidate will be collegial, curious, agile, and demonstrate the ability to apply new skills in an ambiguous environment.

Requirements

  • Be currently studying in a Bachelors or Masters program in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Have experience developing with Python and Shell in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Have knowledge of databases, including NoSQL databases such as CassandraDB and CouchDB, as well as relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Be responsible, self-motivated, diligent, and able to think analytically and deliver solutions to complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Developing backend and frontend solutions while automating workflows to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Building software features throughout the full software development lifecycle for internal use within Akamai.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define standards and document processes.
  • Learning about our distributed systems, products, and technical stack as needed for your role.
