About The Position

SandyPines Residential Treatment Center is a 149 bed Residential Psychiatric Facility servicing children and adolescents ages 5 to 17. The facility is located in beautiful sub-tropical South Florida and is nestled beside Jonathan Dickinson State Park which creates a rustic, roomy outdoor atmosphere. SandyPines is at the county line of both Palm Beach and Martin Counties and is just minutes away from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Interns work with Therapists that are responsible for conducting therapeutic services for patients. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals and groups. Therapists are responsible for interviewing and developing the psychosocial history, assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, developing appropriate treatment objectives and monthly treatment summaries. Therapists act as the patients' and families' primary contact during the patient's stay at the facility, as well as their advocate with the treatment team. Therapists are also liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team and family. This internship is unpaid.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Master's Degree program from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or other related fields.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to document assessments, treatment planning, and interventions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multidisciplinary treatment team members, managed care representatives, adults, and patient families.
  • Knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy dynamics and techniques related to cultural, social, economic, communication, and role expectations within family systems.
  • Knowledge of clinical skills to assess treatment dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct therapeutic services for patients under the supervision of Therapists.
  • Provide counseling sessions for families, individuals, and groups.
  • Interview and develop psychosocial history for patients.
  • Assess the therapeutic needs of individuals and families.
  • Develop appropriate treatment objectives and monthly treatment summaries.
  • Act as the primary contact for patients and families during their stay.
  • Advocate for patients with the treatment team.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with the treatment team and family.
