About The Position

The Chicago Park District’s Summer Risk Management Intern will support the Risk Management department in its efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks that may impact the Chicago Park District. This internship provides a great opportunity for students to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field of risk management within a large public agency. You will work alongside a team of professionals to help maintain a safe environment for all staff and park patrons.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Citizen or national of the United States, or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Proof of current enrollment at an accredited college or university and resume
  • Proof of Chicago residency at the start of program.
  • Basic understanding of risk management principles and practices
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and meet work deadlines.
  • Willingness to complete other administerial and clerical work as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Students who are currently enrolled in a degree program in Risk Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Students with an interest in Public Service and Community focused work are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and evaluating potential risks to the Chicago Park District, including operational, safety, and liability risks.
  • Support the Risk Management team in conducting risk assessments of the parks, facilities, and programs.
  • Help maintain and update the Risk Management database, tracking incidents, claims, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in preparing risk reports and summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigations and ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks and projects as needed.
