About The Position

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Residential Department for Summer 2026. This is a hands-on internship designed to provide a college student with meaningful exposure to all three facets of our residential business – Single-Family development, Multifamily development, and Asset Management of our apartment portfolio. As part of the Peterson Companies team, the intern will work alongside experienced professionals managing active single-family communities, multifamily projects, and an established apartment portfolio.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework by Summer 2026.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, research, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and works well both independently and in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coursework or experience in real estate finance, economics, development, or urban planning.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling.
  • Exposure to Artificial Intelligence tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with acquisition due diligence for single-family and multifamily land and assets.
  • Support financial modeling and analysis for active development projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of Investment Committee requests and investor presentations.
  • Support entitlement (zoning and site plan) applications and related processes.
  • Perform market research to evaluate a project’s economics and sales and rent comparables.
  • Work with Residential Development team members on construction and development issues.
  • Support Asset Management activities for the apartment portfolio, including reviewing operating reports and tracking leasing performance.
  • Construction administration assistance on a 282-unit Class A multifamily property in Loudoun County, Virginia.
  • Perform special projects and analysis for the department as assigned.
