Research and development internship assisting the synthesis, analysis, and testing of a variety of organic compounds, including but not limited to, emulsifiers, dispersants, and other surfactants. These products are used in various industrial applications, including explosive emulsions commonly employed in the mining industry, additives for metalworking fluids (MWFs) or machining lubricants, dispersants that can be added to oils to reduce tension, foaming, prevent corrosion, or keep contaminants separated in crude oil. The intern will have ample opportunity to gain experience in the areas of product development and analysis. In addition to this, the intern will gain experience working in an industrial lab setting, develop/ enhance their research skills, documentation and reporting and practice proper lab safety. Work would include but not be limited to: Synthesis of organic compounds including emulsifiers and other surfactants Spectral and physical analysis of new products Testing of dispersion and emulsion stability Testing of corrosion resistance Study of literature and commercial scientific documents pertaining to related scientific topics Reporting of results and conclusions Assists with any miscellaneous lab tasks/needs when necessary
