About The Position

We are seeking a Summer - R&D Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team in the Summer of 2026. The position entails working in and supporting operations in Tech Area V which consists of two research reactors, the Annular Core Research Reactor and the Critical Experiments reactor, an Auxiliary Hot Cell Facility for waste processing, a Gamma Irradiation Facility, and a Radiation Metrology Laboratory. These student internships exist to assist in various technical assignments related to the operations, maintenance, safety basis, and configuration management of both existing and future nuclear facilities and associated experimental activities.

Requirements

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering (nuclear, mechanical, electrical), health physics, or math

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical analysis in support of irradiation effects and nuclear core performance.
  • Provide Research and Development support in reactor operations, radiation effects experiments, radiation dosimetry, nuclear criticality, and critical assembly technical design.
  • Provide Research and Development support in accelerator operations, modeling accelerator and/or diode performance for design development, radiation effects experiments with accelerators, and radiation dosimetry.
  • Provide Research and Development support for configuration management of key nuclear safety systems and experimental equipment in utilized in reactor experiments, reactor operations, engineering, and maintenance.
