As an Infusion Therapies & Platforms (ITP) R&D Intern, you will contribute to the mission by developing high-quality medical devices for hospitals, pharmacy, and home use, working collaboratively on solutions within one of the Hardware Engineering functional areas supporting the Infusion Systems portfolio. This internship requires the candidate to be local to the Round Lake, IL office.

Requirements

  • Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering or related degree.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative.
  • Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product experts to understand user and business needs.
  • Propose and execute one or more improvement projects to meet internal or external needs.
  • Collaborate in a cross-functional work environment including other R&D functions, regulatory, clinical, quality, manufacturing, and marketing team members.
  • Demonstrate strong curiosity along with a passion for impacting the lives of patients and caregivers.
  • Product Development - joint infusion pump/administration set development project
  • Cyber Security & Software - Identity and authentication management system for a medical device, involving software development and cyber security.
  • Pre Product Development - Prototyping concepts for infusion systems and data analysis
  • Electrical Engineering - support testing and characterization of infusion pump electronics. Perform circuit board bring‑up, electrical measurements, and battery pack performance testing, helping generate data that informs product design and reliability.
  • Systems Engineering - requirement management aspect as well as verification testing for the infusion pump programs. Additionally, exposure to working with program management and other hardware teams for product development perspective with emphasis on requirement and risk management.
