About The Position

At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. Smith+Nephew (S+N) seeks a Research & Development (RD) Intern in the Global RD Organization to join the Biologics and regenerative Medicine (BRM) team and support the Early Innovation research towards design, testing and evaluation of prototypes that will ultimately lead to New Product Development (NPD) and successful Full Commercial Launch (FCL). The role will allow an enthusiastic and science-passionate individual to contribute to meaningful advances in general areas of formulation chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, and materials science. The ideal candidate is always curious and applies scientific rigor to any problem they choose to solve. The candidate is able to work independently, but also in full collaboration with other team members. The position will be based in Columbia, MD. This opportunity will involve working with BRM team members to create and test the prototypes, followed by further refinement of such prototypes to support innovation and product development in all three core areas of S+N business. Additional responsibilities include Design-of-Experiments (DOE) to solve challenging problems and obstacles in Innovation and Development processes.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s, (i.e. Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science)
  • General knowledge and familiarity of above mentioned scientific areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous applicable intern, co-op, part-time or apprenticeship experience is preferred, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include on-hand tasks in the scientific lab, execution of experiments and assays, followed by intellectual and critical interpretation of acquired data.
  • Design-of-Experiments (DOE) to solve challenging problems and obstacles in Innovation and Development processes.
