About The Position

About the Role: This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2026. Resume review begins in January 2026. The QC Microbiology team is responsible for ensuring the safety of our products by checking for microbial contamination. The team samples surface and air sites in manufacturing areas, performs facility water testing and tests in-process and final drug product samples. We ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA, etc.) for microbiological quality. Data generated from the lab is analyzed to detect trends for potential issues and implement corrective actions. What You’ll Do: As an intern you will lead initiatives to reduce turnaround times (TAT) within the laboratory by applying Lean and continuous improvement methodologies. This role will collaborate with lab staff, management, and cross-functional teams to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement sustainable process improvements aligned with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Detailed description of role including but not limited to: Train on basic laboratory techniques and procedures assigned. Train on water sampling and perform daily facility water sampling. Analyze current lab processes and turnaround times. Perform end of incubation testing and enter results into the data management system. Present data-driven reports to lab leadership highlighting performance improvements and ROI of implemented changes. Example projects may include: Facilitate Kaizen events, value stream mapping, and root cause analyses (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams). Lead Lean-based improvement projects targeting TAT reduction, waste elimination, and optimized workflow. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to lab efficiency, turnaround times, and productivity. Work with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other digital tools to identify automation or digital optimization opportunities. To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: Legal authorization to work in the U.S. At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date. Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship. Education Requirements: A junior or senior, working on your bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering field. Job Level: Internship Additional Information The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$27.00 The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
