About The Position

The Production Intern (Asst. Stage Management) will collaborate with the production creative, stage management, and technical teams to plan, schedule, rehearse, and present two productions. Working closely with the Production Managers, this role supports a wide range of production-related responsibilities across administrative coordination, rehearsal support, and backstage performance operations. The Production Intern will have the opportunity to shadow and engage with related departments at Dr. Phillips Center, gaining a broader understanding of how cross-functional teams contribute to the successful execution of productions and overall venue operations. This includes supporting the AdventHealth School of the Arts summer camp showcases by calling cues and partnering with the education team and interns to help manage, organize, and execute each showcase. This internship will run from June 1, 2026- August 7, 2026.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment or recent graduation (25–26 school year) from an undergraduate or graduate program in theatre, production, stage management, technical theatre, or related field required. Preference will be given to undergraduate students entering their senior year.
  • Strong working knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and take initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and composure in all situations.
  • Ability to uphold the highest level of confidentiality.
  • This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
  • Valid Florida driver's license preferred. Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel off-site as required (mileage will be reimbursed at the Federal Mileage Rate).
  • Ability to be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to work at heights and climb ladders as required.
  • Ability to work in dark or low-light environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior backstage or show-running experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Production Manager with administrative production tasks, including updating rehearsal schedules, calling cast, communicating cast changes, and maintaining/updating show documentation and tracks.
  • Support rehearsals through setup and strike of rehearsal spaces, taping stage layouts, creating signage, and capturing and distributing show notes.
  • Execute an assigned backstage show track during performances, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with cast, crew, internal departments, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, professionalism, diplomacy, and sound judgment in high-pressure environments.
  • Take initiative in supporting team needs while following direction and seeking clarification when appropriate.
  • Attend all required Dr. Phillips Center intern training, meetings, professional development sessions, and select special events.
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting, and demonstrating the core values.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
