Summary: The MWRA Western Operations Department has an opening for interns to assist Operations staff with engineering tasks related to the daily operation one of the largest drinking water treatment plants on the East Coast. These duties include engineering calculation, field investigations, data review and analysis, water system evaluations, assistance with ongoing construction projects, startup and testing, review and coordination of engineering drawings and specifications.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of college in an accredited degree program in civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering. Coursework in environmental engineering, water and wastewater systems and/or hydraulics is preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers, Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD.
  • Internship duration: May - September

Responsibilities

  • Compile data and perform data reviews and interpretations.
  • Review engineering reports, plans and SOP's.
  • Assist in the evaluation of water system performance.
  • Perform and verify engineering calculations.
  • Assist with the consolidation and modification of detailed records to support plant operations.
  • Field verifies and makes corrections and/or additions to the equipment data records.
  • Assist with developing task order, maintenance and water treatment projects specifications.
  • Assist with checkout and startup of new process control equipment and systems.
  • Perform related duties as required.
