About The Position

Under the direct supervision of Recreation Center staff, the intern will be learning to assist in the development of the youth volleyball team. Recreation staff will teach the intern how to recruit participants by creating a program flyer and communicating with the public. Recreation Center staff will show the intern how to create a program roster using Excel and the department registration system. The intern will support the Recreation Staff in the implementation of program curriculum; including but not limited to age and skill appropriate drills to develop teamwork, fitness, and sport specific skill development. The intern will assist Recreation Center staff with the implementation of the practice routine. The intern will assist Recreation Center staff with weekly communication of practice and games schedules. By the end of the internship, the intern will be encouraged to apply for Recreation Aide or Recreation Leader I.

Requirements

• 15 ½ years of age or older
• Must be a United States citizen or have the current legal right to work in the United States

Responsibilities

Benefits

• Internships may be paid or unpaid, based on availability of funds
• Paid internships will be compensated at an hourly rate consistent with Exhibit C of the Salary Ordinance
• Not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, paid holidays, and/or any type of City-sponsored insurance
• Will participate in the City’s Defined Benefit Plan administered by the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS)
• Will receive a free transit pass (including MTS Trolley, MTS Bus, and all Rapid and Rapid Express bus services)
• Will accrue paid sick leave while employed in a paid internship (eligible for use after 90 days of employment)
