The Intern - Platform Engineer position at General Atomics involves supporting Airframe and Structures development projects within the Advanced Airframe Engineering organization. The intern will work under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, participating in various phases of Airframe/Structures sub-system projects, from requirements definition to conceptualization and flight testing.

  • Support a Sr. Engineer on project(s) of limited size for the Airframe/Structures Sub-System
  • Facilitate and coordinate interdependent job functions within the Structures Development IPT
  • Develop/derive requirements, internal statement of work, and basis of estimates for Airframe/Structures Sub-System
  • Develop Project Tactical Execution Plans with buy-in from SMEs
  • Coordinate Design For Manufacturing and Assembly
  • Provide engineering/liaison support for product build and qualification testing
  • Interact with internal and external engineering and project/program staff regarding technical/requirements issues
  • Provide documentation and make technical presentations as required
  • Represent the Advanced Aircraft Engineering Department in resolving technical issues associated with specific projects
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and obligations while conducting business on behalf of the Company
  • Work in a safe manner according to established operating procedures and practices.
  • Active enrollment as an undergraduate student at a recognized college or university
  • Completion of undergraduate degree with plans to continue in a graduate program immediately after the internship
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred
  • Ability to understand new concepts and apply them accurately
  • Ability to follow general and detailed instructions and organizational policies
  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills for effective interface with internal professionals
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Basic computer skills, experience with Microsoft Project and Excel
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with design, stress analysis, tooling design, materials/process development, or manufacturing of primary composite structures

  • Hourly pay rate of $29.00 - $31.00/hr.
  • Salary range of $44,590 - $66,295
