Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or the Registered Pharmacist and according to standard procedures, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the primary engineering control; types labels; fills patient medication drawers; prepares and files charge slips; and performs other related duties. In addition to the tasks described above, an Intern Pharmacist may perform functions of a pharmacist only under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and under the discretion of the supervising pharmacist. Consulting with medical and nursing staff on patient therapy and providing pertinent clinical drug information such as drug interactions and IV drug compatibilities. The Pharmacy Department serves patients of all age and developmental levels. The pharmacy intern must demonstrate skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of patients throughout the life span, be knowledgeable in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, and be cognizant of safety issues (both environmental and medical).
