As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees. Key Responsibilities: The Operations Risk Team is made up of four disciplines, Business Continuity Planning, Emergency Response, Managed Care Clinics, and Workers Compensation. The role of Intern, Operations Risk will support all four functions by assisting in data analysis, administrative support on programs and initiatives such as audits and corporate exercises. Support creation of Business Continuity Plans and tools Support in creating and administering corporate Emergency Response plans, manuals, and exercises Support Managed Care Team on developing analytics and usage for clinics Assist in developing data and analytics for Workers Compensation This position is a hybrid role including a combination of days worked in our Chicago office and remotely. No Direct Path: This internship is designed solely to provide you with skill development and valuable work experience. This role will likely not convert to a full-time position at United at the conclusion of the internship.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student graduating in Dec. 2026 or Spring 2027, demonstrating strong academic performance
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now and in the future
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and customer service interaction skills
  • Ability to analyze clinic encounters and capacity for additional services
  • Time management skills
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
  • Position is based in Chicago, IL - must be able to relocate for internship duration
  • We expect the internship to run for 12 weeks starting on 18 May 2026, 1 June 2026, or 15 June 2026.

Nice To Haves

  • Data Analysis: An understanding and ability to perform data analysis including an understanding of basis statistical methods, being able to interpret data, and drawing conclusions based on data sets.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel and equivalent software tools. Should be able to manipulate and analyze large datasets and have the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports based on your data analysis.
  • Communication: Will need to be able to communicate your findings in a verbal manner to both technical and non-technical individual.
