About The Position

The Intern - Naturalist position is a summer internship role focused on teaching interactive interpretive and environmental education programs to diverse age groups, from preschool to adults. The intern will develop and evaluate educational programs, complete individual projects, and assist with daily operations at Custer State Park.

Requirements

  • Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.
  • Must have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the start of the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Teach interactive interpretive and environmental education programs to various age groups.
  • Develop and evaluate programs for public presentation.
  • Complete assigned individual projects contributing to the interpretive program.
  • Engage in roving interpretation and develop year-round programs for community and onsite use.
  • Check and restock supplies for programs and exhibits.
  • Interact with visitors as a host at the visitor centers.
  • Assist in maintaining, opening, closing, and daily operations of buildings, vehicles, and artifacts.
