About The Position

The Mill City Museum intern supports staff in cataloging, digitization, and organization of the staff library and research materials. The position provides hands-on experience in visitor services, and offers exposure to the broader functions of museum operations and interpretation. This internship provides introductory site-based experience with cataloging and digitizing research materials. This position does not include formal training in cataloging or digitization principles and practices.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.
  • Detail oriented and well organized.
  • Enjoyment in sharing historical knowledge.
  • Ability to take direction but work autonomously.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing, or have graduated with a degree in the following areas: History, library science, information science, liberal arts/humanities

Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizing the Mill City staff library to improve accessibility and usability of materials
  • Participate in the digitization and organization of staff research materials, gaining exposure to documentation standards and best practices
  • Assist in organizing and processing of program-use materials and objects
  • Shadow staff in visitor services and interpretation to understand museum duties and operations
  • Under guidance, assist in a limited capacity with museum operations, including the information desk.
