Our internship program is designed for students enrolled in an accredited university or college who are interested in developing on-the-job skills, experiences and insights that last a lifetime. Over the course of 10 weeks, you will have opportunities to learn about several areas of our business, network and collaborate with Ball leaders, and get involved in challenging project work. The Materials Research & Development (R D) Engineering Intern will gain practical experience in the manufacture, product development and application of metal containers across a global R D organization.

Requirements

  • Current students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Materials Science or a related discipline at an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Completed at least one year of coursework with a graduation date of December 2026 or later.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity and willingness to apply basic statistical analysis principles to experimental data.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of basic hand tools and mechanical systems.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative work approach and ability to work as a team and across multiple areas.
  • Ability to work with confidential and proprietary information with integrity.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, ethical conduct, and commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply detailed laboratory methods to monitor, measure and analyze package/product performance.
  • Support multi-national team of Principle/Senior/Engineers and Managers on product development efforts.
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary project load with Mechanical Engineers, Chemists, Food scientists, Metallurgists, Industrial Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Hands-on contributions to ongoing and continuous improvement efforts within the analytical and product development workload (Electro Impedance Spectroscopy - EIS, Environmentally controlled filling, Gauge R&R, Method validation).
  • Generate laboratory data, analysis and reporting from (chemical, analytical, metallurgical and pilot facilities).
  • Attend professional development activities, including a professional development week at our corporate headquarters in Colorado.
