Interns have the opportunity to observe, assist, and learn about the work done at AHA. They will learn hands-on field development and support signature events and campaigns including projects for our Fall Heart Walk and Hard Hats events, and our community impact work. The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Internship Overview: Time Commitment: Internship Duration: 5/18/26-8/21/26 Location: Hybrid. Requirements

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, health communications, public relations, marketing or localization/translation with an interest in non-profit and health care communications.
  • Intermediate proficiency in strategizing and posting on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
  • Comfortable with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Canva.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Intern will be responsible for supporting preparation and promotion for our fall campaigns Heart Walk and Hard Hats
  • Support community impact events and activities as available, like our CPR Mobile Kiosk and Blood Pressure programs with community organizations.
  • Assist with cross-team communications and marketing projects in Health Strategies, Marketing/Communications, Youth Market, and Advocacy as needed.
  • Intern will be responsible for recruiting volunteers for each of their assigned campaigns.
  • Intern will assist with various volunteer management tasks.
  • Intern will learn how to navigate and perform basic functions in databases and applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and OneNote), Greater Giving, and Luminate.
  • Using branding guidelines, create graphics and video content for: Event related materials Mission related materials
