About The Position

Westwood Holdings Group has an exciting opportunity for a college student looking to develop their investment management knowledge and gain experience in a fast-paced, hands-on corporate environment that offers you a chance to learn and develop key investment skills while contributing to a positive company culture. The MIS Team (Managed Investment Solutions) is looking for candidates that have excellent problem-solving capabilities, a high degree of attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. The MIS intern must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a time-sensitive environment, be able to take initiative, and be comfortable taking on responsibility. The intern will learn from the full lifecycle of asset management, from research/analysis to sales strategy to implementation of portfolios on a custom technology platform.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required Currently pursuing a 4-year degree in Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Enrolled as either a Sophomore, Junior or Senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is available.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and computer competencies, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Excel and Power Point skills to support data analysis
  • Acute attention to detail and proofing
  • Demonstrated initiative, a broad perspective, creativity, and good quantitative intuition
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of securities markets, products, behavior
  • Experience with Python, SQL and VBA

Responsibilities

  • Work with the senior members of the team to understand clients’ investment objectives, risk tolerance and constraints
  • Help in the design and development of custom investment solutions tailored to meet clients’ specific needs and objectives
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to construct and implement custom investment solutions
  • Utilize statistical techniques and modelling tools to analyze market data and identify patterns, trends and opportunities
  • Conduct quantitative research to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of investment strategies
  • Rigorously formulate and test fundamental hypotheses against empirical data.
  • Review, evaluate, and modify current academic and industry research for use in our analysis and investment models.
  • Perform back-testing, regression analysis, and scenario analysis of investment strategies to assess their historical risk and return characteristics and potential future outcomes
  • Provide analytical support for client consulting projects
  • Provide support to maintain and service relationships with prospects, clients and consultants
  • Develop and implement process improvements
