As a Machinist Intern at North Atlantic Industries, you will assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC and manual machines to support the production of high-reliability electronic systems for the aerospace and defense industries. Your contributions help ensure our precision-manufactured components meet the highest standards of quality and performance. This Internship is for Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate (Tech school machining program enrollment or degree preferred)
  • Experience with manual vertical mill minimum (CNC vertical mill experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with CNC vertical mill operations preferred.
  • Understanding of G & M code programming (Fanuc control experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of shop safety practices and 6S manufacturing principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Entry- to intermediate-level CAM programming experience (GibbsCAM or Fusion 360 ideal).
  • Completion of Titans of CNC Academy training is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints with attention to GD&T standards.
  • Experience designing and building fixturing or tooling for use in electronics or mechanical assembly.
  • Exposure to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices and precision assembly workflows.
  • Ability to perform complex machining setups for improved stability and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machinery using setup sheets in coordination with the programmer and engineering team.
  • Operate manual machines to produce precision parts for electronic assemblies.
  • Support inventory tracking and control of raw materials, tooling, and fixtures in collaboration with the Stockroom and Purchasing departments.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance on machines and assist with troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in line with 6S manufacturing standards.
  • Contribute to the design and fabrication of custom workholding and fixturing for engineering prototypes and production builds.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across the machine shop to enhance throughput and product quality.
  • Log and track tooling usage, fixture life cycles, and raw material consumption using internal documentation systems.
