About The Position

What you will do Summary The purpose of this position is to assist the Logistics Engineering Department in managing mobile logistics equipment (i.e., forklifts, yard trucks, material tractors). The internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a manufacturing environment, and to support/promote the graduate's career goals through interaction with business and engineering professionals. Interns participate in professional activities for the Volvo New River Valley Plant by working on practical, innovative and important projects. This Internship provides learning experiences where interns and our employees work together on projects within logistics organization. The internship allows student to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo New River Valley Plant.

Requirements

  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in engineering or business management at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship
  • Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Availability for light travel

Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply project management skills in dynamic and technical environment.
  • Assist with transformation to new logistics technology and processes
  • Perform business analysis of real-world problems.
  • Standardize processes for mobile logistics equipment acquisition, deployment, and disposal.
  • The student needs to have intermediate Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and creating graphs.
  • The student will need to create Microsoft PowerPoint presentations for communicating work done throughout the summer and reporting on new project ideas.
