About The Position

The Visual Arts Intern supports the ʻŌlino Arts Pathway by helping with creative projects, youth programs, and visual documentation that celebrate Hawaiian culture and community storytelling. This internship offers hands-on experience in visual arts while supporting culturally grounded education and youth involvement at the Liliʻuokalani Center.

Requirements

  • Actively engaged in a personal art practice in any medium (e.g., drawing, painting, digital art, photography, sculpture, mixed media, or other visual arts)
  • Interest in visual arts, creative expression, and community-based storytelling
  • Willingness to learn, collaborate, and take initiative in a supportive, team-based environment
  • Ability to follow guidance, accept feedback, and apply learning to creative projects
  • Basic comfort with computers and common software (365, Word, Adobe Suite, or similar tools)
  • Interest in learning and contributing to LT’s mission

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Native Hawaiian cultural practices, education, and/or youth programming is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist with visual arts projects connected to youth programs, workshops, and community events
  • Support documentation of programs and activities through photography, video, drawing, design, or other visual media
  • Help prepare art materials, supplies, and creative spaces for youth-facing activities
  • Contribute to creative planning sessions and share ideas related to visual storytelling and artmaking
  • Maintain organization of digital and physical art files, materials, and project resources
  • Shadow and support staff and teaching artists to learn workflows within the ʻŌlino Arts Pathway
  • Participate in team meetings, reflections, and learning activities related to art, culture, and community
  • Adheres to internship program guidelines and supports department needs as assigned.
  • Completes a variety of tasks that provide broad exposure to departmental workflows.
  • Actively builds new skills, strengthens existing abilities, and applies learning to real‑world projects and responsibilities.
