About The Position

The Chicago Park District’s Summer Legal Intern Program provides opportunities for law students to work on substantive legal assignments under the supervision of a Park District attorney. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
• Citizen or national of the United States, or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Proof of current enrollment and resume
• Proof of Chicago residency at the start of program.
• Demonstrated proficiency in legal research, analysis and writing
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and meet work deadlines
• Willingness to complete other administerial and clerical work as needed

Nice To Haves

• Student in good academic standing who has completed their second year of law school.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Students with an interest in Labor and Employment Law are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda
• Draft motions
• Review discovery
• Prepare for and attend depositions and court hearings
• Draft and review contracts and other legal documents in a variety of practice areas, including but not limited to personal injury, labor and employment, procurement, real estate and municipal financing
• Participate in other litigation or transactional matters as assigned
• Work in a professional environment, building workplace skills and gaining valuable experience in preparation for future employment
• A law student with a license under Supreme Court Rule 711 may appear before the court under the supervision of a Park District attorney.
