About The Position

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States. The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer Intern to support areas of planning, research, and data analysis for projects related to land use, zoning, housing, and/or bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure. This internship will provide a student with valuable experience in the areas of planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Ideal candidates should live within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region and be able to work at least 20 - 25 hours a week from approximately mid-May to mid-August 2026. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for Interns who are successful in this position and live in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Working with supervisor to compile and summarize project information for planning studies Assisting with the collection, processing, and analysis of land-use, transportation, and demographic data Entering data and maintaining spreadsheets, files, and other information systems Working with supervisor to create and edit maps, and process spatial and tabular data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS/ESRI ArcGIS Pro) Drafting and preparing reports, presentations, checklists, documents, public outreach content, and education materials for supervisor review Working with supervisor to perform quality control on completed work

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and the ESRI ArcGIS Pro platform
  • Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Good analytical skills, with ability to identify data discrepancies
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
  • No work experience required
