About The Position

About the Role We are seeking an outstanding Summer Intern to join our Instrument HW Engineering group focusing on R&D system performance and reliability. As an intern, you will be involved in the product development process, supporting the group responsible for ensuring we deliver best-in-class hardware products. You will work in a demanding multidisciplinary environment, enjoying hands-on hardware development and data analysis. What You Will Be Doing Your responsibilities will be split between supporting R&D test & reliability activities and executing a focused technical project:

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Currently an undergraduate student entering your 4th year or a recent graduate within the last 3 months; pursuing a degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Mechatronics, etc)
  • Technical: Strong background in HW engineering principles including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, analog circuits & sensors, mechatronics.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills and familiarity with statistical analysis.
  • Tools: Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills and a desire to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Mindset: Self-motivated with a desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization and a "can-do" attitude for hands-on hardware testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with statistical software like JMP or Minitab.
  • Exposure to biomolecular assays and gene sequencing technology.

Responsibilities

  • Push the Limits of R&D Hardware: Support instrument workflow testing and conduct sophisticated statistical data analysis to determine the long-term performance and reliability of our next-generation platforms.
  • Solve Real-World Engineering Bugs: Take ownership of focused projects to investigate instrument issues relevant to your background, driving the investigation from root-cause analysis to solution.
  • Design & Execute Experiments: Conceptualize and implement custom hardware tests and experimental designs (DOE) on R&D instruments to optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Coordinate your designs and findings with other key functions, including Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, and Computational groups.
  • Master New Technologies: Rapidly pick up new technologies and use them to troubleshoot complex electromechanical and fluidic systems.
  • Influence Future Products: Identify and implement test process improvements that will help set the high standards for our technical development.
