The Grand River Dam Authority is an agency of the state of Oklahoma, created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1935 to be a “conservation and reclamation district for the waters of the Grand River”. GRDA is a non-appropriated state agency, fully funded by revenues from the sale of electricity and water instead of tax dollars. GRDA utilizes a diverse portfolio of assets to generate, transmit and sell electricity to Oklahoma municipalities, electric cooperatives and industrial customers, as well as off-system customers across a four-state region. At the same time, GRDA manages over 70,000 surface acres of lake waters in Oklahoma, as well as the waters of the scenic Illinois River. GRDA operates multiple hydroelectric facilities across northeastern Oklahoma, supporting flood control, recreation, and dependable electric generation. Opportunity Summary GRDA is seeking motivated and safety-focused students to participate in its Internship Program as a Hydro Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician Intern. This internship provides hands-on exposure to hydroelectric plant operations and maintenance activities under the direct supervision of experienced Hydro O&M professionals.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an Engineering, Industrial Technology, Electromechanical, or Power Plant / Energy Technology program with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully complete a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong interest in hydroelectric generation, mechanical systems, or electrical systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with safe operation and maintenance of hydroelectric generating units, gates, valves, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities, inspections, and lubrication tasks.
  • Observe unit startups, shutdowns, and operational evolutions under supervision.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Support dam safety, grounds, and facility inspections in accordance with FERC and GRDA standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, tailboards, and hazard recognition activities.
  • Perform site housekeeping and work area organization activities.
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
